Ágnes Mócsy on “Physics in Concert with the Arts”
September 26, 2019 @ 4:00pm-5:00pm
Ágnes Mócsy, Ph.D., is a Visiting Professor at Yale University and a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the Pratt Institute in the Department of Math and Science. Her visit is hosted by GMAWIP, a group for the support and promotion of women and gender minorities in Physics at UW-Madison, and is sponsored in part by WISELI’s Celebrating Women in Science & Engineering Grant Program.
Dr. Mócsy’s talk will depart from the often present science-art dichotomy, exploring the complicated, often unexpected relationship that physics and the arts share. This complex relationship provides opportunities for fresh storytelling, in particular physics narratives embedded in a wider culture and interdisciplinary explorations in classrooms and beyond. She will argue that science and the arts acting in concert may deliver benefits beyond science communication, addressing questions of social justice, and become an influencer of a more equitable world.
